Media-education to the next level during Media Future Week 2013

Media-education to the next level during Media Future Week 2013

After the success of past years iMMovator, in cooperation with at least ten universities of applied science, organizes the third Media Future Week (MFW) in Almere from 13-16 May. Students, professors and lectors from various media programs will be taken on a rollercoaster ride of co-creation sessions, crossovers, lectures and inspiration sessions with leading speakers from the international media industry. Media Future Week’s purpose is to bring participants to the next level in their field and enforce the relationship between education and media industry.

Participants in the MFW are challenged to develop their own vision on the media future and their role as future media professional. They will work in mixed teams on a cross-media case from the industry. Frank Visser, (iMMovator, coordinator of MFW): “This year we’ve again invited companies to be casepartners of MFW. These companies provide the MFW participants with a case or problem. During the week, the participants work on these cases and present a solution at the end of the week. Amongst others, there will be cases about multi screen applications and about smart societies.

Participants of MFW are offered an exclusive program of 12 hours daily to help them to create original case solutions. Every university of applied science contributes material from their research programs, allowing the participants to have access to a library during the week of extensive documents on a wide range of related subjects. Furthermore, leading international media professionals will inspire the participants with enthousiastic speeches, Dutch high profile entrepreneurs will share their experiences en the participants are offered practical workshops, for example on business modeling.
Get connected

The expectations are high. “Students and teachers were very excited last year. It was beautiful to see that, in particular, the group process was very valuable” said Frank Visser. “After the week we kept talking about media developments and the cases which the participants had worked on. The effect and relevance of the MFW, for the student, is very noticeable. I see an acceleration. They have become faster in the search for resources and making connections between knowledge and people. They learn to work together in a new way. Thanks to the MFW they are a little bit prouder of their knowledge.”

The Media Future Week is organized in cooperation with 11 universities of applied science: NHL Hogeschool, Fontys Hogescholen, Saxion, Hogeschool Rotterdam, Hogeschool Utrecht, Windesheim Flevoland, InHolland, Hogeschool of Amsterdam, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, Hogeschool of Arnhem and Nijmegen, NHTV and the HKU. The Media Future Week is supported by the Gemeente Amsterdam through their “The Amsterdam Campus” project, the Gemeente Almere and the research project “The Future Now”.
