“Exchanging knowledge and expanding my network was why I participated.”
Sjoerd Vermaak (22) is an enthusiastic alumnus of the Media Future Week. He is founder of a young and fresh music marketing & artist management company named TOPLESS. We asked Sjoerd five questions about his experience.
What experiences and/or knowledge did you gain from Media Future Week 2015?
It is very exceptional but I got invited two times for the Media Future Week. Exchanging knowledge and expanding my network was one of the main reasons for me to participate. It’s great to work together with students from all over the country (and even beyond). At some moments it really felt as if I was on a business trip.
What one activity or experience did you enjoy so much at MFW15, that if you had the chance, you would do again?
It would definitely be experiencing the whole MFW atmosphere once again. Everyone is just so willing to work hard, the students are amazing, so are the speakers & organizers of the event.
What are your two ‘do’s and don’ts’ of MFW?
1. Be well prepared: this is not a regular school trip, be prepared that on some days you’ll be working more than 12 hours a day.
2. Network! All these students are there for a reason, they are true young professionals. Some of them even have their own companies. It’s important to get in touch with as many people as you can.
1. Do not be an idea killer: it will not only kill great ideas, but it will kill the entire atmosphere within your group. It definitely affects the motivation of everyone you will be working with.
2. Do not expect MFW to be a relaxing week out. It’s an absolute rollercoaster ride with many ups and downs. You’ll have very few relaxing moments, but the ones you have are great. (Pssh, there was actually a private sauna in my hotel).
What would you say is the best way to prepare for MWF?
Bring your notebook, business cards and sleep really well the night before you start. (You’ll need your rest).
How would you sum up Media Future Week in one word?
